Beau: 3.5

(That sounds so old!  Where is my baby boy going?)

He seems to be the quintessential eldest child (ie Mommy's helper.)

  • Our plan for Saturday night was very exciting:  laundry.  While I was gathering things, Beau put on his shoes (wrong feet), put on Buttons shoes (right feet) and lined my shoes up the door, undid the laces, and pulled up the tongue.
  • Another afternoon, we returned from the grocery store and while I answered the phone, he put all the groceries away--in their correct places!
  • He takes his responsibilities pretty seriously.  He was getting something out of the utensil drawer and sighed, "Mom, someone put a big spoon in the [with] little spoons again.  Lemme do it next time."

He went through a stage where he would only respond to "Super Duper."

He still loves to cook and randomly says, "Cooking girl, what can cooking boy help you make?"

He has eyebrow skills.  He'll lock eyes, and without so much as a wiggle of a smile, make his eyebrows dance.

He'll ask me to look at him and get really close to my face, peer in my eyes and then say "there I am!"  (His reflection.)

In one such moment, he commented,"what are those little red lines on your eyes?" Before I could explain, he screamed, "Your eyeballs are cracking!"

still a nap-needer
his "basketball jersey"
KK brought this back from Taiwan giraffes swimming with whales
the climber; the protector
Oh yeah, and he's the (self-appointed) elevator man.  He'll keep his finger on 'door open' and peek around the door in case anyone else is coming, then with below pleased expression he'll ask "which floor?":

  1. It wasn't just "Super Duper". For a while there, he would ignore me unless I addressed him by his full name:
    [FirstName] [MiddleName] [LastName] Super Duper!
Then he added "Umi Zumi Super Wild Kratt!" on the end. It was awesome.

He LOVES that basketball shirt. Whenever we're going to play basketball (or any sport) he absolutely HAS to go find his shirt. And he tells me all about the funny giraffe that's swimming in the water, or the whale that's flying in the sky. Great shirt KK

  2. I love that sleeping picture. It reminds me of his uncles that fall asleep on the living room rug...still. Uncle Buddy with his scriptures and Uncle Coco with his phone :) Bradshaw with his toys.

  4. Great update. What a great helper Beau is! I love the picture of him holding Button's leg as she climbs. And I can't believe he put all the groceries away-amazing! I'm hoping Jack falls into that helper mode when baby #2 comes... any advice?
Jack use to tell me "Mom, your face is cracking!" (My wrinkles around my eyes.) He also likes to refer to my stretch marks as racing stripes... that one hurts a little :)
Thanks for the message yesterday :)

  6. @Dani
He just likes to be involved and have his hand at whatever we are doing (ie vacuuming, sorting laundry, washing dishes, cooking.) Pretty typical of 3-yr-olds, right? We praise whatever effort he puts into it + he loves to do anything alongside Mom & Dad, ya know? Oh. We try to create kid safe versions of everything we do (like finding window cleaners that are safe if ingested; child-height coat racks, etc.) I'm sure we're doing all the same things. Jack's going to be such a sweet, doting, protective big brother.
