At 18 months, Baby Button is quite the combo of sugar and spice.
Par exemple:
One night this week, "Pierre" had 15 minutes for dinner with us before he needed to head to a meeting. Pierre, Beau & I were scarfing down our food and we looked over at Button--saucer-eyed, chin down and arms folded--waiting for a prayer before eating. (Sugar.)
Our building has a common area with pool tables, kitchen, etc. Button was hugging my leg while I was chatting with a friend when she beelined from my side, into the kitchen, and in one fluid movement the gas stove was alight with flames (Spice.)
She gets in hyper moods where she repeatedly climbs on the coffee table/dining table and laughing so hard she can hardly stand and runs right off the edge. Perfectly assured that her parents arms will appear to catch her. Our frantic lunges have defied physics. (Spice: the heart attack; Sugar: her giggliness.)
The day after I watched her climb in-and-out of her crib (Spice) she used the toilet three times. (Suuuugar.)
She yells my name, runs to greet me, and throws her arms around my legs, when I enter the room. (Sugar.) She is very tough and rarely fusses over "owies." (Sugar) But she can also turn on the waterworks at her discretion. (Spice) She says hello and goodbye to every stranger we pass (Sugar.) We have a secret language. Buttonese. (Sugar.) When she comes with me to primary and kids stand up to sing, she likes to pull chairs out from under them. (Spice.) With enough determination, she topples our love seats and uses them as playgrounds. (Spice? Sugar? We need Spring to arrive.)
Another defining feature of 18-month-old Button is how much she tries to be like her brother. Beau likes to take books and sprawl out on our bed. Button likewise will bring books. Then I'll watch her steal sideways glances to see what he's doing--if Beau rolls over on his stomach, she does too, if he itches his forehead, she will too. Hilarious
Button also wants to wear underwear every day because he does. And not her pink underwear, she wants to wear Handy Manny or Lightning McQueen [pictured below].
Every time he's in the bathroom she begs to have her diaper taken off and then sits on the little potty beside him.

1st ponytail! Not as excited as Mommy was.
her custom-made ladder
She detests these 3 things: the doctor's office, having her hair washed & the vacuum. Can you guess which it is here?
That's been one of my favorite things to watch over the last few months--Button copying everything her brother does. She really loves him and looks up to him. And he's a great big brother.
ReplyDeleteShe is SO adorable. I love her hair. Does she sit relatively still while you do it? Will she let her Aunties do her hair for the wedding?!?
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh. SO CUTE! And she's such a big girl! In the ponytail picture me and Tayler go, "That's Sweetie (my niece)!" Seriously. I want to snuggggle. If she'll let me. :) haha! I'm guessing she detests having her hair washed?
ReplyDeleteI'm going to guess that she hates Dr's visits. No active little climber likes sit and wait for the Dr to come back in the room, that's the longest 10 minutes of any mom's life! Then the Dr comes in and is surprised when Mom has used rubber gloves as balloons and tongue depressors as swords. Hey- were just trying to survive in the tiny room!
ReplyDeleteThis post reminded me of the sour patch kids commercials. I love that she is sweet but has a sassy side. She'll need spice to keep up with Beau and Jack in the summer!!!! (I am getting so excited)
The part about pulling out chairs in primary made me laugh out loud. and I love that she follows what her older brother does - even the underwear! maybe that will come in handy and she'll be potty trained fairly quickly? such a cute girl!
ReplyDeleteKates! Yes, she would loooove to have her aunties do her hair. She sits really sit actually.
ReplyDelete@Stef
ReplyDeleteYes. She loves baths, but not having water poured over her head. She books it for dry land every time.
Trick question! Actually, I worded the caption oddly; she dislikes all 3 of those things.
@Dani, Latex glove balloons? That's awesome. I need you around when I get bored!
I am jealous of her potty training zeal! That's AWESOME. Cpt A sometimes copycats his sisters as well, but not when it comes to wearing underwear.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, I just pulled out the latex glove balloon trick today in the doc's office!
Stef, I can totally see Sweetie in that picture!
Is she hating the vacuum in that picture? She really is so so so cute. :)
ReplyDeletebing-bing-bing Yes, that is vacuum-avoidance cuteness.
ReplyDeleteSeriously love the ponytail! & I can't believe she's potty training already-that's incredible. I guess thats what happens when a smart little girl desires to be like her super cool big brother.
ReplyDelete& love that pic of the two of you baking.
