I'm the eldest daughter in my family and so growing up I would get to be St. Lucia (the times we celebrated this way) and on Christmas morning would wake everyone up wearing a wreath of candles on my head and serve hot cinnamon rolls. I thought it would be cool to have my own children become acquainted with some of the traditions of their heritage and took them to a Swedish Christmas celebration (and bazaar--Julmarknad.)
They turned out the lights in the room for the Lucia procession and all dressed in beautiful white dressed and carrying candles. Button asked if they were angels. They had crystal clear voices and it felt so festive sitting only by Christmas tree lights and candle light and listening to traditional songs.
There was a room with re-created Swedish and old-American scenes as well as a boat (tell the story of Swedish people immigrating to the US) Button and Beau are ALL about make-believe and feverishly ran from one part to another.

They are SO cute in their outfits--I love Beau's hat!
ReplyDeleteMy sweet girl remembers! I did try to get that one to work, but the tradition didn't stick. It was filed back there with our sunrise Easter service. Remember in California when we did that up on the hill? It was so hard to get you guys out of bed:) Funny how it isn't hard on Christmas morning!
