we've been walking a lot lately
the kids have yet to complain, but this happened:
poor, sweet girl
Two weeks ago, D & the kids were driving back from dropping me off at the airport (trip to Utah/new nephew), when the temperature gauge started going wild and the engine smoking. He pulled off the highway to let the engine cool down and couldn't restart the car. He took the car to a mechanic who said the water pump, brakes, and steering were shot and quoted repairs at several times the value of the car. Keep in mind, D got this news while I was out-of-town, and as a single-parent, he could only make it to classes by dropping the kids off at babysitters (our dear friends), and dropping them off required a car. This was terrible timing.
Of course, D didn't want me to worry and so he withheld that the car wasn't working until right before I came home.
So what would you do? The cost of repairs is astronomical. If we were planning on sticking around in the states and using a car, we'd be in the market for another one. However we'd only need a car a very short time (min 7 weeks, max 12 weeks.)
We are very fortunate in that we have many plausible options. #1. Go car-less (the only problem is we can't get to church, or B's school) #2. Accept the extremely generous offer to borrow D's parents' car (expensive to drive it out here and for them to get back) #3 Repair the car ourselves.
Can you guess which one we're doing? My husband was so cute all covered in grease and grime.
Go Dustinn! You can do it! My brother-in-law Chris knows a lot about that stuff if you want to talk to someone. He's super generous and helpful whenever we need help. :) And poor little L!!! That was pretty adorable, though. Love you guys!
ReplyDeleteDo you guys have ZipCars out there? You could just use those when you need them... somewhat expensive but definitely an option cheaper than renting a car for a while.
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness that video is so cute! Hopefully D can get everything fixed for you, its definitely a lot cheaper that way.
ReplyDeleteAwww that's adorable!
ReplyDeleteI kind of feel bad for laughing... but it is reeeeally so cute. She's so tough! Way to go, L! I love that she's in a pink tutu.
ReplyDeleteD, 화이팅! Has Genny told you what that means?? I wish we could help out...
Nelson told me that word on New Year's Eve. I think he said "lightning" or "fighting"...I can't remember. But the context (with a fist pump as only Nelson can do) was that of "you can do it!" or "power to you!" or "never give up!"
DeleteIs that right? What is it?
Ginnie could that be the phrase/word that I could try to do the yarn project with? Looks daunting. lol.
DeleteHis translation is great actually!! Way to go Nelson! But yes, you could totally do the yarn letters with that phrase! That would be such a good one!
DeleteI'm so sorry...car troubles are the worst! But what a super sweet hubbie to not want to ruin your trip with the news, and what an ADORABLE little walking zombie. :) :) I hope things are up and running soon...
ReplyDeleteDid you mention you were leaving the country? Where? I love your blog. Your kids are so cute!
ReplyDeleteJust once. So it's kinda buried in the blog.
