WE'RE MOVING TO KOREA!!!!
My side of the story:
D received a great offer from his summer internship in Dallas (not only did he love the role, but for the first time in our marriage we would be living very close to family!) It seemed picture perfect but we both had an inexplicable feeling that we should not accept the offer. This company and living in Dallas made so much sense so we hemmed and hawed over the decision for several months. The night before the acceptance deadline, D called and declined the offer. It was a leap of faith, knowing that the job market was difficult and Kellogg's recruiting season was already over. This was early December.
Right away, D applied to two jobs that intrigued him, one in Seattle and one in South Korea. The next week was a whirlwind. D had 1st-round interviews, flew to Seattle for a 2nd-round interview, presented to a board of directors for the other 2nd-round interview, studied for and took finals, graded a bazillion tests (he's a TA), and was told by both companies that they were interested in hiring him.
In the middle of that crazy, chaotic week (and wondering how long it had been since D had slept) I suggested that he decline the 2nd round interview with the South Korean company, because "it's not like we're seriously considering moving to Korea." And that was the moment of knowingness. Yes, we had planned post-MBA to finally settle (put down roots, buy a house, get a dog, build a tree house in the back yard.) But as those words left my mouth, I felt that that was our future. It was like I could already envision glimpses of it. While I could think of million reasons that it didn't make sense, it felt right. We could feel what a wonderful blessing and adventure this would be for our family.
Keep in mind, we didn't even know whether he would get an offer from this company but sure enough he did and we felt that same ecstatic feeling. We took a few weeks to mull it over, just to be sure, and then accepted the offer in January.
It's a leadership training program for a world-renowned company. It's a wonderful offer in every way.
My family has many ties to Korea (I have a sister who is Korean and a brother and a sister who served church missions in Korea) which helped prepare us for this path.
We move to Korea in 4 months! We are so excited!
